James Strawbridge's Soda Bread

When you need bread in a hurry, this recipe will come to your rescue! No need for yeast or hours proving, you can create a simple rustic loaf in less than an hour.

Serves 4



  1. Preheat your oven to 200˚C. Mix all your dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then add in your buttermilk and a little milk.  
  2. Mix to form a sticky dough then turn out onto a floured surface and lightly knead. 
  3. Roll into a flattened ball of dough. Score the surface of the bread with a cross that cuts halfway through the bread. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 mins or cook on preheated flat griddle turning every 10 mins until evenly cooked throughout. 
  4. Serve the soda bread warm with cold butter and a full English Breakfast!
